The Journey of Katun

From a Small Boutique to a Global Vision

In 2012, our founder, Archana, started a small boutique in an extra flat she owned. What began as a humble space soon became the foundation for something bigger. Through this boutique, she connected with industry experts and found an opportunity in mass production.

Taking on white-labeling projects, she designed and produced garments in bulk, fulfilling orders of 500 to 1,000 pieces at a time. Within just six months, she had fully transitioned into mass production.

However, she noticed a gap—while mass production was thriving, the local market showed little interest in organic fabrics. This realization led to a bold decision: to start fresh with a boutique that focused on sustainable and custom fabrics.

The Rise of Rangoon & the Shift to Authentic Fabrics

In 2017, Archana launched Rangoon, a brand specializing in handwoven and custom fabrics. From khadi to silk, cotton, and intricate hand-block prints, the boutique quickly gained a loyal clientele. But when the pandemic struck, everything came to a halt.
Determined to keep going, she took production in-house, ensuring quality and authenticity. The response was incredible—every collection sold out almost instantly.
Yet, there was one challenge: people outside the local market couldn’t access Rangoon’s exclusive designs. That’s when the idea for Katun was born.

Introducing Katun

A Brand Rooted in Sustainability

Katun wasn’t just another fashion label—it was a movement towards conscious fashion. The brand revived Ilkal, an ancient Karnataka weave, transforming it into modern silhouettes for the younger generation.

The name Katun itself means cotton, inspired by the Indonesian word. While brainstorming a brand identity, Archana wanted a name that was simple yet powerful—one that embodied purity, sustainability, and timeless elegance.

100% Organic Indian Handlooms

We use pure, handwoven fabrics that celebrate India’s rich textile heritage while ensuring sustainability.

Supporting Local Artisans & Weavers

Every piece is crafted by skilled artisans, preserving traditional weaving techniques and empowering local communities.

 Eco-Friendly & Waste-Free Fashion

We use natural dyes, minimize textile waste, and embrace slow fashion to reduce our environmental impact.

Katun was created—a brand where every piece tells a story of heritage, sustainability, and ethical craftsmanship.

A Future Where Fashion Meets Responsibility

At Katun, we believe that fashion should not cost the planet. By choosing handcrafted, natural fabrics, we bring you timeless clothing that aligns with nature while celebrating India’s rich textile legacy.

Our mission is to make organic and handcrafted fabrics accessible to all while creating employment opportunities and uplifting artisans.

Join us on this journey toward a more sustainable, conscious, and beautiful world of fashion.
